Youth Adelante After School Program

The Youth Adelante After School Program runs at two schools in San Mateo County: Garfield Charter School and Willow Oaks Elementary. We work with middle school students (7th & 8th graders) by offering tutoring in Math/study skills, incorporating cultural awareness, leadership development and self confidence building activities.

This is an important focus area for CLF, in order to positively impact retention rates for this population, while improving their skills in "gateway" classes, such as algebra, which determine success in college preparatory classes.

We also look to impact other barriers facing Latina youth, by having presentations that address issues that are relevant to them and fostering leadership skills at an earlier age.

This program is a partnership between the Chicana Latina Foundation and El Concilio of San Mateo County. It runs three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) during the duration of the school year at both sites.
