Sandra Milan, Ph.D.

Senior Director and Group Leader Portfolio Management and Operations, Genentech Research and Early Development

Sandra Milan is a Senior Director and Group Leader at Genentech, where she oversees project team leaders responsible for the strategy and operations of biotechnology development programs transforming treatment for a wide range of cancers.  Sandra possesses extensive experience in setting multi-year strategies and leading teams and projects through significant risk and complexity. Currently, she is actively involved with the company’s lung cancer team. Prior to that, Sandra led a number of other high profile programs, including  Avastin.  

Sandra’s passion for using science to fight disease and improve lives extends to developing the next generation of leaders.  She is a Founder and member of gWISE (Genentech Women in Science and Engineering) and champions the company’s Diversity and Inclusion efforts as an ambassador.   

Sandra also serves on the Board of Directors for Chicana Latina Foundation and Chabot Space and Science. 

Sandra received her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology from U.C. Berkeley, where she also completed a postdoctoral fellowship.  Sandra held a number of leadership roles at Chiron for ten years prior to joining Genentech in 2006.
